Myofascial Decompression (Cup Therapy)
Negative Pressure to Decompress Adhesions
Myofascial Decompression (MFD) is a form of soft tissue work that utilizes negative pressure to decompress adhesions or spots where the connective tissue is stuck. This pressure causes increased blood flow to the area resulting in improved nutrient exchange and healing as well as decreased pain and stiffness.
MFD stimulates whole-body relaxation, blood oxygenation, and detoxification of metabolic debris in muscle tissue, fascia, and skin. Other benefits include increased range of motion, the breakup of adhesions, and the promotion of healing in scar tissue and chronic injury sites.
Can be useful in the treatment of:
- Chronic overuse injuries, such as Bursitis, Tendonitis & Tendinosis
- Myofascial Pain Syndromes (low-back & mid-back pain, neck pain, elbow pain, shoulder pain)
- Post-surgical recovery
- Sports Medicine injuries
- Headaches
- Postural syndromes
- Neuromuscular Re-Education
- Scar-tissue mobilization
- Sprains & strains
- Muscle spasms
MFD is not used by itself as a treatment. It is just one method, which may be used by Physical Therapists in the overall rehabilitation of musculoskeletal conditions. Ultimately, the goal is to improve mobility, stability, and movement patterns of your body.
